lol what the hell? Those are like the simplest foreign AUTOMOTIVE carbs to rebuild. Maybe just because the first 50 or so carbs I did rebuild were those. A little odd but whatever. Frenchiness maybe

I believe these are very similar to the Mikuni Carbs I have on my bikes. Also, your picture is fuzzy (or maybe its my eyes)

Simple yes, at least a more typical Solex. The air controls on the one fitted to the Land-Rover make for far more fixed jets than most American carbs I'm used to - something like 6-7 separate jets to take out and clean. The accelerator pump setup is also slightly odd, but my main point is not that a side-tube choke "chamber" is defective in any way, merely extremely bizarre by American standards, particularly as configured, with a rotary valve controlling air and fuel control at once. French, yes, but this one's made by the Brits so there may be compound weirdness present.

I say this as someone who's worked on plenty of Japanese carbs and on American standards like the Rochester, just not this kind of setup before. The air jet in the main stream, the fuel dumping tubes - it's all just a little off-kilter.

agreed on that. Just like that CAV rotary injection pump on the 2.25 diesels is a little off kilter...but once you know it, all good

See, SUs are simple, because they're completely alien - and they have an excuse in not having a proper butterfly. This bastard sort of uses the main butterfly as a choke butterfly as if it were the variable venturi of an SU. In other words, it's weirder than a normal alien, because it's a hybrid, and overcomplicated at that. I described the setup to someone as being like it was designed by an autistic alien: overcomplication and weirdness on an almost German level, but such that it doesn't make immediate sense - you have to think about it.

Lower right is fuzzy, because preset MS Paint dpi on shrink. I think Mikuni is a licensor of Solex, so it'd make sense that some of the goofier "innovations" would bleed through.
